Doula Services

WHAT IS A DOULA?

Doulas provide support to mothers and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal time.

Doulas are usually women, experienced with and knowledgeable about pregnancy, childbirth & early parenting issues.

Doulas do not work in a medical capacity and they will not advise you what to do, but they can support you to find balanced information & feel empowered to make informed decisions about your maternity care.

There is evidence to show that having by having a doula you can:

  • Reduce the risk of having a Caesarean birth
  • Reduce the risk of having an instrumental birth
  • Reduce the need for painkillers or epidural birth
  • Reduce the rate of induction of labour
  • Shorten your labour
  • Increase the likelihood of initiating breastfeeding
  • Increase the likelihood of successfully establishing breastfeeding and breastfeeding at 6 weeks

Birth Doula

I will be available for you throughout your pregnancy from the moment you invite me to be your doula, offering support whenever you need it.  We will meet antenatally to explore your birth options & preferences so that you will feel calm, confident & ready to meet your baby.

You will then be surrounded by love & support during your birth - I am there for you & with you to hold space, to help you (and your partner) navigate any twists & turns and to help you have a positive  birth experience

Postnatal Doula

The postnatal period is not as protected in our culture as it used to be.  Parents are expected to be 'back to normal' quickly whilst coping with a new baby that arrived without a manual!

Let me support you and your family.

You can feel relaxed and enjoy your new baby whilst I support you in whatever ways you need - perhaps entertaining older children, cooking a light meal, help with getting feeding established, taking the baby for a walk while you sleep! I am here, with you and for you.
